Jeremy Irons Reprises Role As Wallace Westwyld in THE BEEKEEPER 2

Jeremy Irons Reprises Role As Wallace Westwyld in THE BEEKEEPER 2
Oscar-winning actor Jeremy Irons ("The Lion King", "Reversal of Fortune", "Batman v Superman") is set to return as the villainous Wallace Westwyld in the upcoming sequel "The Beekeeper 2". Westwyld was a former CIA director serving as the head of security for Danforth Enterprises in the first film, which starred Jason Statham as a former intelligence operative who goes out of retirement to seek revenge for the death of his friend.

The sequel is directed by Timo Tjahjanto ("Nobody 2", "The Night Comes For Us") from a script by Kurt Wimmer ("Equilibrium", "The Beekeper"). The new installment will be released worldwide by Amazon MGM Studios and produced and financed by Miramax. Filming is expected to begin in the fall. No release date has been set.

In a recent interview, Tjahjanto said the following: "Literally two days ago, I was in London scouting for locations [for Beekeeper 2], and now I'm here in LA ... I can't wait, because Beekeeper is obviously one of those movies where it sort of walked the fine line … something absurd about it in a great way, right? I think that's what I'm drawn to, because I love this absurdist world of Beekeeper and secret agents and all that stuff. But also, there's something that is really earnest in its sense, where it can be really violent, it can be suddenly very gritty."

Executive producers include Jonathan Glickman, Thom Zadra and Ali Loewy. Spencer Ela will oversee the production. Producers also include Statham via his Punch Palace Productions banner, Chris Long via Longshot Productions, and Wimmer.

Directed by David Ayer, "The Beekeeper" was a hit with both critics and audiences, grossing $162.6M worldwide against a budget of $40 million.
