Irish actor Aidan Turner ("Poldark", "Rivals") has joined the cast of the upcoming third season of the Netflix political thriller series "The Diplomat". Turner will have a key recurring guest star role. Also joining the new season is Bradley Whitford. The regular cast members include Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell, David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear and Ato Essandoh.
Character details are being kept under wraps. Returning recurring players include Allison Janney, Nana Mensah and Miguel Sandoval. "The Diplomat" returns for its 8-episode third season on October 18, 2025. .
Season 3 picks up in the aftermath of the dramatic Season 2 finale, as Ambassador Kate Wyler (Russell) lives the particular nightmare that is getting what you want. She just accused Vice President Grace Penn (Janney) of hatching a terrorist plot and admitted she's after the VP's job. But now the President is dead, Kate's husband Hal (Sewell) may have inadvertently killed him, and Grace Penn is leader of the free world. Kate steps into a role she never wanted, with a freedom she never expected, an increasingly complicated friendship with Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (Gyasi), and an unnerving bond with First Gentleman Todd Penn (Whitford).
Turner can next be seen in the second season of the 1980s Hulu dramedy series "Rivals"
