The new Jason Statham movie "A Working Man" conquered the weekend box office, dethroning Disney's live-action remake "Snow White" in its sophomore frame. The film isn't a smash hit but did finish on the high end of expectations. Meanwhile, Fathom Entertainment's theatrical release of "The Chosen: Last Supper - Part 1" scored impressive numbers, outranking new wide releases like "The Woman in the Yard" and "Death of a Unicorn".

Amazon/MGM's action thriller "A Working Man" opened in first place with $15.5 million from 3,262 theaters, which is pretty much on par with director David Ayer's previous Jason Statham movie "The Beekeeper" (16.5 million in January 2024). Overseas, the film raked in an additional $16.6 million for a global debut of $32.1 million. The film's $40 million budget might be a little too pricey in the long run, but it's not a terrible start. "A Working Man" received mixed reviews from critics (50% on Rotten Tomatoes), but the audience reception was lukewarm ("B" CinemaScore).
Disney's "Snow White" plummeted in its second weekend, grossing only $14.3 million, which is a 66% drop from its already modest debut. The film has now grossed a total of $66.9 million. With another $75.8 million from overseas markets, the film's worldwide cume now stands at $142.7 million, and is expected to lose approximately $115 million for the studio.
The big-screen feature-length version of "The Chosen" Season 5 offered the weekend's biggest surprise, opening in third place with $11.7 million from 2,478 theaters, with a per-theater average of $4,741. For example, "A Working Man" scored an average of $4,754. This is the biggest opening in "The Chosen" franchise and the biggest faith-based debut of 2025, so far. The first episodes of "The Chosen" Seasons 3 and 4 raked in a total of $14 million combined. Part 2 opens this week and Part 3 will be released the weekend before Easter on April 11th.
In fourth place we have the Blumhouse horror film "The Woman in the Yard" with a modest $9.3 million debut from 2,842 theaters. The film cost $12 million to produce. It received a negative reception from both critics (47% on Rotten Tomatoes) and moviegoers ("C-" CinemaScore).
Another new wide release, the satirical horror film "Death of a Unicorn" starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega opened in fifth place with $5.7 million from 3,050 theaters. The film received a mixed reception from both critics (55% on Rotten Tomatoes) and moviegoers ("B-").
Another surprise is GKids' release of the 4K restoration of Hayao Miyazaki's 1997 classic anime "Princess Mononoke", which made its debut in sixth place with $3.8 million from only 330 theaters. That's a whopping $11,730 per-theater average.
In other news, "The Penguin Lessons" starring Steve Coogan nearly made it into the Top 10 with $1.1 million from 1,017 theaters, and "The Ballad of Wallis Island" opened in four theaters with $92,000, which gives it the year's second-best per-theater average ($23,000).
