The action comedy "Novocaine" starring Jack Quaid topped the charts over the worst weekend of 2025, so far ($52 million for all releases). It wasn't a great weekend for other new semi-wide releases like Steven Soderbergh's spy thriller "Black Bag", the animated film "The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie", and the Biblical drama "The Last Supper", which all underperformed. Meanwhile, the A24 thriller "Opus" failed to even make the Top 10.

Paramount's "Novocaine" opened in first place with $8.8 million from 3,365 theaters against a budget of $18 million. It added another $1.8 million from foreign markets. The film received positive reviews from critics (82% on Rotten Tomatoes), but the audience reception was lukewarm ("B" CinemaScore).
Focus Features' "Black Bag" made its debut in second place with $7.6 million from 2,705 theaters. Overseas it raked in $4.3 million, which brings the worldwide debut to $12 million against a $60 million budget. The film was universally praised by critics (97% on Rotten Tomatoes), but moviegoers were mixed on it ("B" CinemaScore).
In third place, the sci-fi film "Mickey 17" dropped a massive 60.9%, grossing $7.4 million in its sophomore weekend. The film's has now grossed $33.2 million domestically, while overseas it adds another $57.2 million for a global cume of $90.4 million. The film's $118 milion budget, however, means the film is pretty much a bomb for Warner Bros.
The Disney/Marvel blockbuster "Captain America: Brave New World" finished its fifth weekend in fourth place with $5.6 million, down a soft 32.1% from the previous frame. The film has now grossed a total of $185.6 million domestically (overtaking "Black Widow") and $203.5 million overseas. That's a total of $389.1 million worldwide against a reported budget of $180 million.
The Top 5 is rounded out by indie distributor Ketchup Entertainment's release of a former WB animated film "The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie", which scored a $3.1 million debut from 2,827 theaters. The film was well-reviewed by critics (86% on Rotten Tomatoes), but the audience reception was lacklustre ("B+" CinemaScore).
In other news, the faith-based film "The Last Supper" opened in sixth place with a weak $2.7 million from 1,575 theaters, while A24's "Opus" made its debut outside the Top 10 with $1 million.
