Britney Spears Biopic Lands at Universal With Jon M. Chu to Direct
Universal has acquired the rights to pop star Britner Spear's best-selling 2023 book "The Woman in Me" in a highly competitive bidding war, and will be adapting it into a biopic that will be directed by Jon M. Chu. Chu is currently helming the studio's two-part "Wicked" adaptation. Marc Platt ("La La Land") is set to produce.

Spears celebrated the new on social media: "Excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt". He's always made my favorite movies … stay tuned." The book was published by Gallery Books on October 24, 2023, and has sold 2.5 million copies in the U.S. The audiobook was read by Michelle Williams, and quickly became the fastest-selling in Simon & Schuster's history and was Spotify's top audiobook of 2023.

Spears launched to stardom with her debut single "...Baby One More Time", which was released in 1998 and became a smash hit, going platinum 14 times. In 2005 she won a Grammy. She also dabbled in acting, starring in the 2002 coming-of-age film "Crossroads", and performed worldwide on her "Piece of Me" global tour in the summer of 2018. Spears' conservatorship garnered national attention before being terminated in 2021.
