TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: THE LAST RONIN R-Rated Live-Action Movie in the Works

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Last Ronin R Rated Movie In The Works

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are set to return in a live-action project from Paramount Pictures that will be geared for adults. The studio is developing an adaptation of the ultra-violent graphic novel series "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin" that ran between 2020 and 2022, and was written by Turtles comic co-creator Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz based on an older story by Eastman and his co-creator Peter Laird. In 2023, the comic appeared as an anthology and was the second best-selling of the year.

The movie's screenplay is written by Tyler Burton Smith ("Boy Kills World") while former DC Films head Walter Hamada is overseeing production via his company 18hz production company.

The story is set in a bleak, dystopian future in which Oroku Hiroto, the grandson of the Turtles' arch-nemesis, Shredder, rules New York City as a totalitarian despot. Hiroto has killed all but one of the Turtles, as well as their mentor, Splinter; the remaining Turtle seeks revenge by wielding all four of their signature weapons.

Also in development is a video game based on the comic. Meanwhile, the sequel to last year's animated film "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" is scheduled for release in 2026.
