The "Mean Girls" musical remake dominated the box-office over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, while the R-rated Jason Statham action thriller "The Beekeeper" followed in second place with an impressive debut. The biblical satire "The Book of Clarence" tanked.

"Mean Girls" opened in first place with $28 million from 3,791 theaters, which is only slightly ahead of the 2004 original ($24.4 million), if you don't account for inflation. The film received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics (71%) and a lukewarm reception from critics ("B" CinemaScore).
"The Beekeeper" opened with $16.8 million from 3,303 theaters. The film received a lukewarm reception from critics (69% on Rotten Tomatoes), and moviegoers mostly enjoyed it ("B+" CinemaScore).
"Wonka" finished in third place with $8.3 million, losing 40% from last week. The film has now grossed $178.6 million domestically and another $329.1 million.
The romantic comedy "Anyone But You" moved up to #4 and grossed $6.9 million in its fourth weekend, which is more than it earned in its opening weekend ($6 million). The film's domestic total has now reached $55.1 million after 24 days in theaters.
The Top 5 is rounded out by Illumination's "Migration" with $6.1 million, which brings the domestic total to $85.7 million.
