The first weekend of 2024 was dominated by "Wonka", now in its second consecutive #1 weekend, after losing the second of its four weekends to "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom". The only new wide release, the Blumhouse horror flick "Night Swim" opened in second place, barely making a splash.

"Wonka" is holding in first place with $14.4 million in its fourth frame, dropping just 35.8%. The fantasy musical has now grossed a total of $164.6 million domestically, and another $301.2 million overseas, which all adds up to $465.8 million globally against a production budget of $125 million.
The horror movie "Night Swim" opened in second place with $12 million from 3,250 theaters, which is on the lower end of Blumhouse horror releases. The film also raked in $5.6 million from foreign markets. Its saving grace is that it only cost $15 million to make, which it will probably recoup in a few weeks. Both the critical and audience receptions have been negative (26% on Rotten Tomatoes and "C" CinemaScore).
"Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" finished its third frame in third place with $10.6 million, a 41.9% decline from the previous week. After 17 days it has grossed $100 million in North America and another $234.8 million overseas. The worldwide tally is now at $334.8 million against a budget of around $200 million.
In fourth place we find Illumination's "Migration" with $10.2 million, down 39.7%. The film has reached a domestic total of $77.8 million in 17 days, while overseas it adds $72.8 million for a worldwide total of $150.7 million against a $72 million budget.
The Top 5 is rounded out by the romantic comedy "Anyone But You" with $9.5 million. The film actually increased +9% from last weekend, which is a rare feat these days. After 17 days in theaters, the film has earned $43.7 million. Overseas it grossed $14.7 million. Worldwide total: 58.4 million. Budget: 25 million. While not a big earner when it first opened, the movie is slowly showing signs of profitability
