Gerard Butler to Reprise His Role in HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON Live-Action Adaptation

Gerard Butler is set to reprise his role as Stoick in Universal's live-action adaptation of DreamWorks Animation's "How To Train Your Dragon". The movie will be directed, written and produced by three-time Oscar nominee Dean DeBlois, who helmed all three animated films.

Mason Thames and Nico Parker are set to star as Hiccup and Astrid. The film opens in theaters on June 13, 2025.

The live-action adaptation will draw audiences deep into the animated franchise's lore which is based on Cressida Cowell's book series. The original three films have grossed more than $1.6 billion combined, and received three Oscar nominations for Best Animated Feature, as well as a Golden Globe win for the second installment.

Three-time Oscar nominee Marc Platt ("La La Land", "Bridge of Spies") is producing alongside Emmy winner Adam Siegel ("2 Guns", "Drive"). VP Production Lexi Barta will oversee the film on behalf of Universal.

Butler can also be seen in the sequel to his 2018 action movie "Den of Thieves".
