Warner Bros' fantasy musical "Wonka" starring Timothee Chalamet scored a solid debut this weekend and dominated the box-office while building momentum for the holidays.

"Wonka" opened in first place with $39 million from 4,203 theaters. Overseas it opened last weekend, and has now raked in a total of $112.4 million from 77 countries, which brings the worldwide tally to $150 million. The film's budget is reportedly around $125 million. The film received a warm welcome from both critics (84% on Rotten Tomatoes) and moviegoers ("A-" CinemaScore).
"The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes" is holding in second place with $5.8 million, down 37.6% from last week. The film has grossed a total of $145.2 million domestically, $144.4 million internationally and $289.6 million worldwide.
The Japanese anime film "The Boy and the Heron" dropped from first place to third place in its sophonmore frame, grossing $5.1 million (60.2% drop). The film has now grossed $23.1 million in North America (Miyazaki's highest grossing film ever) and $86.7 million overseas, which brings the worldwide total to $109.8 million.
Toho's Japanese-language kaiju film "Godzilla Minus One" finished in fourth place with $4.8 million, dropping 43.2% in its third week. After 17 days in theaters, the film has grossed $34.2 million domestically, and another $29.8 million overseas.
The Top 5 is rounded out by "Trolls Band Together" with $4 million. After 31 days, the film has raked in $88.6 million at the domestic box-office, and $94.4 million from foreign markets. It all adds up to $183.1 million worldwide.
