Illumination is making a new "Super Mario Bros" animated movie, and the voice cast is truly impressive. The video game adaptation will star Chris Pratt and Charlie Day as brothers Mario and Luigi, the iconic Italian plumbers from the beloved Nintendo game series.
The voice cast will also feature Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Jack Black as the villain Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Fred Armisen as Cranky Cong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
The film will be released in theaters on December 21, 2022 via Universal Pictures. Nintendo and Universal are co-financing the project. "Teen Titans Go! To the Movies" helmers Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are directing from a script by Matthew Fogel ("The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part").
Mario Brothers was designed by Shigeru Miyamoto and Gunpei Yokoi, Nintendo's chief engineer in 1983. The subseries "Super Mario Bros." was launched in 1985 and has become the best-selling video game franchise of all time, with more than 758.06 million copies of games sold, including 388.92 million for the Super Mario games alone.
