The 78th Annual Venice Film Festival's jury led by Bong Joon Ho gave the Golden Lion for Best Film to French director Audrey Diwan's 1963-set abortion drama "L'Evénement" ("Happening"). Paolo Sorrentino's "The Hand of God" took the runner-up Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize as well as the Marcello Mastroianni Award for for Best New Young Actor or Actress for Filippo Scotti.
Jane Campion took home the Best Director award for "The Power of the Dog", while Maggie Gyllenhaal won Best Screenplay for her feature directing debut "The Lost Daughter". Penélope Cruz took the Volpi Cup Best Actress prize for Pedro Almodóvar's "Parallel Mothers".
