With no other wide releases in sight, Universal's "Candyman" reboot/sequel, which was released exclusively in theaters, scored an impressive North American debut. The film is a direct sequel to the 1992 horror classic of the same name.

The R-rated "Candyman" opened with $22.3 million from 3,568 theaters against a $25 million production budget. The original film opened with $25.7 million in 1992. The new installment didn't do so well overseas, grossing only $5.2 million from 51 markets.
In second place we find the Ryan Reynolds starrer "Free Guy" with $13.5 million, dropping just 26% in its third weekend. The film's domestic total has now reached $79.3 million, while overseas its tally sits at $100.3 million.
Paramount's animated film "PAW Patrol: The Movie" finished in third place with $6.6 million, dipping 49.6% from its opening weekend. The film has, so far, raked in $24.1 million domestically, and another $37.8 million internationally.
Disney's "Jungle Cruise" landed in fourth place with $5 million in its fifth weekend. The film dropped only 20%, and its domestic total has crossed the $100 million milestone, while overseas it has raked in $86.9 million.
The Top 5 is rounded out by the horror sequel "Don't Breathe 2" with $2.8 million. The film dropped 44% and has now grossed $24.5 million in North America and another $10.7 million overseas.
