This marks Lovato's return to scripted television, after getting her break in Disney Channel's "Camp Rock" movies. She also starred in the sitcom "Sonny With a Chance", which ran from 2009 to 2011.
The single-camera comedy follows a group of friends who belong to a food issues group and help each other as they look for love, success and the perfect thing in the fridge that’s going to make it all better.
The series is being written by "Will & Grace" writer and "Hot in Cleveland" creator Suzanne Martin.
Lovato and Martin will executive produce alongside Sean Hayes, Todd Milliner, Scooter Braun, James Shin and Scott Manson.
The singer has been open about her own struggle with disordered eating. She is the subject of the YouTube Originals documentary series "Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil", which will premiere at SXSW.
