THE CROWN Casts Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana in Season 5 and 6

THE CROWN Casts Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana in Season 5 and 6
Elizabeth Debicki ("Tenet", "Widows") has signed on to star as Princess Diana in the upcoming fifth and sixth seasons of Netflix's "The Crown", taking over from Emma Corrin, who plays Diana on the show's fourth season.

In a statement, Debicki had this to say about the project:
"Princess Diana's spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many. It is my true privilege and honour to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from Episode One."
According to "The Crown" creator Peter Morgan, the series will run for six seasons. It was originally reported in January that Season 5 would be its last. However, Morgan's vision had always been a six-season run. Morgan explained his reasons:
"As we started to discuss the storylines for Series 5, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons. To be clear, Series 6 will not bring us any closer to present-day — it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail."
Recently, Oscar-nominated actor Jonathan Pryce has been cast to play the Queen's husband, Prince Philip, in the final two seasons. Pryce will take over from Tobias Menzies who played him in the third and fourth seasons. The cast also includes Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II and Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret.

"The Crown" will take a production hiatus, and filming on Season 5 is expected to begin next June.
