Tom Hanks in Talks to Play Geppetto in Disney’s PINOCCHIO

Tom Hanks in Talks to Play Geppetto in Disney’s PINOCCHIO
Two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks is in early negotiations to star as Geppetto in Disney's upcoming live-action version of "Pinocchio". Robert Zemeckis is on board to direct. Hanks and Zemeckis previously worked together on "Forrest Gump" (1994), "Cast Away" (2000) and "The Polar Express" (2004).

The screenplay is penned by Zemeckis and Chris Weitz ("About a Boy"). The latter is also producing with Andrew Miano.

Disney's 1940 animated classic was based on Carlo Collodi's children's novel "The Adventures of Pinocchio", and the story centers on a wood-carver named Geppetto who carves a wooden puppet brought to life by a fairy — and told he will become a real boy if he proves himself to be brave, truthful, and unselfish.

Hanks still needs to finish filming the Elvis Presley biopic directed by Baz Luhrmann, after production was suspended after Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, fell ill with COVID-19. Production is expected to resume in the fall in Australia. The actor recently shattered viewing records with his WWII drama "Greyhound", which premiered on Apple TV+.
