Weekend Box Office: CHAINSAW MAN Dominates Newcomers REGRETTING YOU and SPRINGSTEEN: DELIVER ME FROM NOWHERE

Weekend Box Office Chainsaw Man Regretting You Springsteen Deliver Me From Nowhere

Once again, a Japanese anime film dominates the box-office, beating major Hollywood studio contenders. "Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc" topped the charts, while the Colleen Hoover adaptation "Regretting You" underperformed, and the Bruce Springsteen biopic "Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere" downright tanked.

Read more about the weekend box office after the jump.

The anime "Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc" opened in first place with $18 million from 3,003 theaters. It's not as impressive as what "Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle" raked in last month, but it's still well ahead of expectations. Overseas the film has grossed a total of $90.7 million ($14.7 million over the weekend from 46 markets) for a worldwide total of $108.7 million. And the film only cost around $4.1 million to produce. Both the critical and audience reception have been overwhelmingly positive (100% on Rotten Tomatoes and "A" CinemaScore).

Paramount's romantic drama "Regretting You" opened with $13.6 million from 3,393 theaters, which is a step down from last year's Colleen Hoover adaptation "It Ends With Us", which opened with $50 million and went on to gross $148.5 million domestically. "Regretting You" also raked in another $10 million from international markets for a $23.6 million global debut. The film reportedly cost $30 million to produce. Critics hated the movie (28% on Rotten Tomatoes), while the audience reception was lukewarm ("B" CinemaScore).

Last week's #1 movie, the horror sequel "Black Phone 2" finished its sophomore frame in third place with $12.9 million, down 52.8%. It has now grossed $48.9 million domestically and another $31.7 million internationally, which adds up to a $80.7 million global tally against a $30 million budget.

The biographical drama "Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere" opened in fourth place with only $8.8 million from 3,460 theaters. It didn't fare better overseas, either, with only $7 million from 28 countries. The film received a mixed reception from both critics and moviegoers (59% on Rotten Tomatoes and "B+" CinemaScore).

Now in its third week, Disney's "Tron: Ares" continues to plummet. The film rounds out the Top 5 with $4.9 million, a 55.8% decline in its third weekend. The film has now grossed a total of $63.3 million in North America and $60.3 million from foreign markets. That's a worldwide total of $123.7 million against a budget estimated at around $200 million.

In other news, YouTube critic Chris Stuckmann's feature filmmaking debut, the horror film "Shelby Oaks", opened in seventh place with $2.3 million from 1,823 theaters. The film received mixed reviews from critics (59% on Rotten Tomatoes) and moviegoers didn't seem to enjoy it much ("C+" CinemaScore).
