Original DOC MARTIN Star Martin Clunes Joins Fox's Remake BEST MEDICINE

Original DOC MARTIN Star Martin Clunes Joins Fox's Remake BEST MEDICINE
Martin Clunes who starred in the original British "Doc Martin" series for 10 seasons across 18 years, has joined the cast of the U.S. remake, which will be launched by Fox. The new adaptation of the long-running medical comedy drama stars Josh Charles as Martin Best, based on the character Clunes played in the original. Abigail Spencer, Josh Segarra and Cree also star.

"Best Medicine" is a one-hour series that follows Martin (Charles), a brilliant surgeon who abruptly leaves his illustrious career in Boston to become the general practitioner in a quaint East Coast fishing village where he spent summers as a child. Unfortunately, his blunt and borderline rude bedside manner rubs the quirky, needy locals the wrong way, and he quickly alienates the town, even though he's all they've got.

Clunes is set to play his father, Dr. Robert Best, an accomplished, headstrong gastroenterologist whose abrasive demeanor makes Martin look practically cozy by comparison. Estranged from his sister Sarah (Annie Potts), Robert's surprise visit to Port Wenn puts everyone on edge. But underneath his snobby, stone-cold exterior, he's hiding a few secrets of his own that could turn Martin's new life upside down and force him to confront his past.

The new show is produced by Fox Entertainment Studios and executive produced by Ben Silverman, Rodney Ferrell, Howard T. Owens, Liz Tuccillo, Mark Crowdy and Philippa Braithwaite. The series is distributed worldwide by Fox Entertainment Global.
