Netflix surprised everyone with a surprise theatrical release of their hit animated film "KPop Demon Hunters". The two-day weekend sing-along theatrical event exceeded expectations and dominated the box-office, pushing the horror film "Weapons" to second place. Meanwhile, Ethan Coen's solo directorial effort "Honey Don't!" starring Margaret Qualley and Aubrey Plaza turned out to be a bomb.

Netflix's "KPop Demon Hunters topped the box office charts with $18 million from 1,700 theaters, which is a huge 10,588 per theater average. It's highly unusual for an event release with a limited release frame to top the charts. The film cost around $100 million to produce.
"Weapons" fell to second place in its third weekend with $15.4 million, which is a solid 37% decline from the previous weekend after addding another 181 screens. The film's domestic total has reached $115.6 million, while overseas it adds another $84 million for a $199.6 million worldwide total (against a $38 million budget).
Disney's "Freakier Friday" finished its third weekend in third place with $8.8 million, down 37.7%. The film has now grossed $70.2 million in North America and another $42.9 million from foreign markets. The worldwide cume now sits at $113.1 million againt a $45 million budget. The first film grossed a total of $160.8 million in 2003, which adjusted for inflation would be around $280.9 million in 2025.
The Marvel flick "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" is holding in fourth place with $6 million, a 33.5% drop from last weekend. Domestically it has grossed $257.3 million, so far, with another $233.1 million internationally adding up to a $490.5 million global tally (against a $200+ million budget).
The Top 5 is rounded out by the animated sequel "The Bad Guys 2" with $5.1 million, down only 32.1%. The film has now grossed $66.1 million domestically and $83.6 million overseas. That's a global total of $149.8 million against a $80 million budget.
Meanwhile, the neo-noir dark comedy "Honey Don't!" opened in eight place with only $3 million from 1,317 theaters. The film cost an estimated $20 million to produce, but it still looks like it will lose money.
In other news, A24's "Ne Zha II" English dub release opened with only $1.5 million from 2,228 screens, landing outside the Top 10.
