"Wednesday" and "Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice" star Jenna Ortega is in final talks to join the secret untitled Warner Bros. movie directed by J.J. Abrams. Ortega will star opposite Glen Powell ("Top Gun: Maverick", "Twisters"), who is also close to finalizing his deal.
Abrams wrote the script, but no details are available about the story, other than it does not contain any trime travel (as previously speculated). The project will be produced by Abrams and his production company Bad Robot. This will be Abrams' first directorial project since 2019's "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker", and his first original feature since 2011's "Super 8".
Ortega will be returning for the second season of "Wednesday". She recently finished filming Taika Waititi's "Klara and the Sun", A24's "Death of a Unicorn" and an untitled film directed by Trey Edward Shults. She can next be seen in the highly anticipated Tim Burton sequel "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" which will open in theaters on September 6, and is heading toward a $75M-$84M opening weekend according to long-lead tracking.
Powell is in production on A24's "Huntington", a loose remake of "Kinds Hearts and Coronets". He is also set to star in director Edgar Wright's new adaptation of Stephen King's "The Running Man", as well as Paramount's reimagining of "Heaven Can Wait".
