The "Tron" franchise is being resurrected by Disney. While deals aren't complete yet, the studio is in advanced negotiations with "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" helmer Joachim Rønning to direct a new installment in the series, which is currently titled "Tron: Ares".
Jared Leto is also set to star in the movie, which will be a direct sequel to 2010's "Tron: Legacy". Leto, who has been attached to a "Tron" reboot since 2017, will also produce alongside Justin Springer, Jeffrey Silver, and Emma Ludbrook, with Sean Bailey and Sam Dickerman on board as executive producers. Principal shooting will begin this summer in Vancouver.
The "Tron: Ares" script is written by Jesse Wigutow ("It Runs in the Family"). The film's crew is currently being assembled.
Rønning recently finished work on Disney's biopic "Young Woman and the Sea", which stars Daisy Ridley as Gertrude Ederle, a New York teen who became the first woman to swim across the English Channel.
Leto is also set to star in Disney's "Haunted Mansion".
