Donald Glover to Star in and Produce Spider-Man Movie Based on Villain Hypno-Hustler

Donald Glover to Star in and Produce Spider-Man Movie Based on Villain Hypno-Hustler
Donald Glover ("Atlanta") is attached to star in and produce a new Sony Pictures movie set in the "Spider-Man" universe, which will be written by Myles Murphy, the son of actor and comedian Eddie Murphy. The project is currently untitled, but it is said to focus on Hypno-Hustler, one of the more obscure Spider-Man villains.

The villainous character was created by Bill Mantlo, the writer who also created Rocket Racoon, and artist Frank Springer, and he first appeared in Marvel comics in 1978. His real name was Antoine Delsoin, lead singer of a band called the Mercy Killers, who use their music to rob their audiences.

Spider-Man himself will amost certainly not be a part of the project. Glover was at one time a fan-favorite to play the web-slinger after a 2010 article by writer Marc Bernardin pointed out there is no reason why Spider-Man has to be white. The actor appeared in 2017's "Spider-Man: Homecoming" as Aaron Davis, the uncle of Miles Morales, and he also voices Miles in the 2015 Disney XD series "Ultimate Spider-Man".

The Hypno-Hustler will join Sony's cast of Spider-Man villain solo spinoffs that also includes "Venom", "Morbius", and the upcoming "Kraven the Hunter" and "Madame Web".

Glover can next be seen in Amazon's upcoming series "Mr. and Mrs Smith" alongside Maya Erskine. The actor co-created and executive produced the series.
