Academy Award nominee Amanda Seyfried ("Mamma Mia!", "The Dropout") has joined the cast of the upcoming Apple TV+ anthology series "The Crowded Room", which hails from writer Akiva Goldsman ("A Beautiful Mind"). The show is a co-production between Apple Studios and New Regency. Kornel Mundruczo ("Pieces of a Woman"), has been tapped to direct and executive produce the first season.
Written and executive produced by Oscar winner Goldsman, the series will explore inspirational stories of people who have struggled and learned to successfully live with mental illness. The first season is a 10-episode thriller based in part on Goldsman's own life and Daniel Keyes' biography "The Minds of Billy Milligan".
Tom Holland plays the leading role of Danny Sullivan, loosely based on Milligan, who was the first person acquitted of a crime because of multiple-personality disorder, now known as dissociative identity disorder. Seyfried will star as Rya, a clinical psychologist faced with the most challenging case of her career. Rya cannot help but put her patients first, all the while trying to balance her life as a single mother.
Seyfried can next be seen as Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Olmes in the miniseries "The Dropout".
