Jake Gyllenhaal ("Donnie Darko", "Prisoners", "Everest") will star in and produce the heist thriller "Cut & Run" for New Republic.
The film follows a group of thieves who use high-powered speedboats to rob superyachts, but end up in trouble when they steal the wrong thing from the wrong group of people. The spec script was written by John Glenn ("Eagle Eye", "Law Abiding Citizen"), and New Republic Pictures won the rights after a bidding war with several potential buyers.
Gyllenhaal and New Republic have previously worked together on the upcoming Universal action thriller "Ambulance" directed by Michael Bay. Gyllenhaal will produce through his Nine Stories Productions, along with New Republic's Brian Oliver & Bradley Fischer, and Glenn.
Glenn is currently adapting "The House of Hoarder Hill" for Sam Raimi and Wiip Studios.
Gyllenhaal can next be seen in "Ambulance", which opens in theaters on April 8, and his upcoming projects include STX's "The Interpreter". New Republic Pictures recently signed a first-look deal with Gyllenhaal's Nine Stories and plans to partner on "Oblivion Song", a feature film adaptation of Robert Kirkman and Lorenzo De Felici's graphic novel.
