Two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett has signed on to star in Pedro Almodovar's English-language feature debut titled "A Manual for Cleaning Women", which is an adaptation of the 2015 collection of short stories by Lucia Berlin.
The book includes 43 stories about women working a wide variety of demanding jobs. The project is in early stages of development. Blanchett, Andrew Upton and Coco Francini will produce for Dirty Films, with Almodóvar for El Deseo, and Brian Oliver and Bradley Fischer for New Republic Pictures.
Almodovar recently directed the drama "Parallel Mothers" starring Penelope Cruz, and the English-language short "The Human Voice" that starred Tilda Swinton, both released by Sony Pictures Classics.
Blanchett recently starred in Adam McKay's Netflix flick "Don't Look Up", and Guillermo del Toro's "Nightmare Alley". Upcoming projects for the actress include Eli Roth's video game adaptation "Borderlands" and the animated adaptation of "Pinocchio" from Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson.
