Aaron Eckhart ("The Dark Knight", "Olympus Has Fallen") has signed on to star as the lead in the action thriller "The Bricklayer" directed by Renny Harlin ("Die Hard 2", "Deep Blue Sea") from a script by Hannah Weg ("Septembers of Shiraz") and Matt Johnson ("Into the Blue").
The plot centers around a mysterious figure who is blackmailing the CIA by assassinating foreign journalists and making it look like the agency is responsible. As the world begins to unite against the U.S., the CIA must lure its most brilliant – and rebellious – operative (Eckhart) out of retirement, forcing him to confront his checkered past while unraveling an international conspiracy.
The film is produced by Millennium Media ("The Expendables") and Gerard Butler, who have previously collaborated on the "Has Fallen" franchise. Butler was at one point attached to star in the film, which has been in the works for more than a decade. Production will begin in March at Millennium's new Nu Boyana Greece studio and its Nu Boyana Bulgaria facility.
Eckhart is currently starring as former President Gerald Ford in Showtime's "The First Lady". Harlin has been working on films in China over the last five years.
