Benedict Cumberbatch To Star In THE 39 STEPS Limited Series Directed By Edward Berger

Benedict Cumberbatch is on board to star in the upcoming limited series "The 39 Steps" inspired by Scottish author John Buchan's 1915 adventure novel of the same name that was first adapted by acclaimed filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock into the 1935 classic film.

The miniseries is created by "The Revenant" and "The Midnight Sky" scribe Mark L. Smith and directed by Edward Berger. The latter previously worked with Cumberbatch on the limited series "Patrick Melrose", and he also executive produced and directed the Showtime miniseries "Your Honor".

The story follows an ordinary man, Richard Hannay (Cumberbatch), who becomes an unwitting pawn in a vast, global conspiracy to reset the world order.

Production company Anonymous Content will start shopping the series around networks and streaming services. Cumberbatch will executively produce with his producing partner Adam Ackland under their SunnyMarch banner. Smith and Berger will also serve as executive producers alongside Sophie Gardiner for Chapter One Pictures.

Cumberbatch is currently working on "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness"
