Shailene Woodley Joins Crime Drama AFTER EXILE With Robert De Niro and Shia LaBeouf

Shailene Woodley Joins Crime Drama AFTER EXIL With Robert De Niro and Shia LaBeouf
"Big Little Lies" star Shailene Woodley has joined the cast of the indie drama "After Exile".

Directed by Joshua Michael Stern ("Jobs", EPIX's "Graves") from a script by Anthony Thorne and Michael Tovo, the film follows Mike Delaney, an ex-con (Shia LaBeouf) who, after being released from prison for killing an innocent man after a violent robbery, must re-enter his old life with his father (Robert De Niro) in order to save his younger brother from a life of drugs and crime. Tovo wrote the story based on true events from his life.

Woodley will play play Dana, a woman who grew up with Mike, and whose troubled relationship with him leads to a life of drugs and depression. Once Mike is released from prison, Dana tries to rekindle their relationship, moving in with Mike and his father, and hoping she can walk away from the life she regrets living.

Filming will begin in November in Philadelphia. Les Cohen will serve as executive producer.

Woodley can be seen next in Drake Doremus' new film "Endings, Beginnings", which premieres next month at the Toronto International Film Festival.
