Cate Blanchett Eyes Guillermo del Toro's NIGHTMARE ALLEY

Cate Blanchett Eyes Guillermo del Toro's NIGHTMARE ALLEY
Cate Blanchett is in talks to join Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro's psychological thriller "Nightmare Alley". The film is an adaptation of William Lindsay Gresham's novel of the same name, which was previously turned into a 1947 movie that starred Tyrone Power and Joan Blondell. Del Toro will direct from a script he co-wrote with Kim Morgan.

The story follows an ambitious young con-man who teams up with a female psychiatrist to pull off a scam, which involves communicating with the dead and very rich clients. However, she proves to be even more corrupt than he is, and while their grifter routine is very successful, she eventually turns the table on him. The cast already includes Bradley Cooper, but at this point, it's unclear what roles Cooper and Blanchett will play.

Blanchett can next be seen in Richard Linklater's "Where'd You Go Bernadette", and she is currently filming the FX limited series "Mrs America".

Del Toro has recently produced the upcoming fantasy horror film "Antlers" starring Keri Russell and Jesse Plemons, as well as Andre Ovredal's "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark", based on the children's book series of the same name, which opens this week in theaters.
