"Crazy Rich Asians" star Awkwafina has signed on to star in the fantasy-adventure film "The Last Adventure of Constance Verity", based on the novel of the same name by A. Lee Martinez, who is currently working on the third book in the series. Legendary picked up the film rights, and the adaptation has been penned by John Raffo ("Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story", "The Relic").
The story follows Constance Verity who, for mysterious reasons, finds herself thrust into a battle with the supernatural from the moment she was born, and has been saving the world from disaster ever since. But now she's exhausted and wants to sample what she has missed out on: a boyfriend, a normal job, best friends. However, walking away from a life of adventure is no easy feat, especially when you are the chosen one.
"Air Force One" and "The Last Seduction" producer Jon Shestack brought the project to Raffo and attached Awkwafina. Jon Silk will oversee alongside Jay Ashenfelter for Legendary.
Awkwafina is also set to star in Disney's Phase 4 Marvel film "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings". She can be seen next in Sony's sequel "Jumanji: The Next Level", Ryan Murphy's "The Prom" adaptation starring Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman, the dramedy "Breaking News In Yuba County" from Tate Taylor ("The Help"), and she's also voicing Scuttle in Disney's live-action remake of "The Little Mermaid".
