John Cena Officially Joins FAST AND FURIOUS 9

John Cena Picture

WWE Superstar and actor John Cena ("Bumblebee", "Blockers") has been officially confirmed as part of the cast of Universal's upcoming sequel "Fast & Furious 9". This is the first significant casting for the film. Franchise veteran director Justin Lin, who has already helmed four installments in the series, will be back in the director's chair.

There is no information available related to Cena's character, except that he's "a bada**", according to Universal's press release. The screenplay is being written by Dan Casey ("Kin") from a story by Lin. Michelle Rodriguez has also been confirmed to return for the upcoming sequel.

The WWE star's casting is probably meant to fill the void left by the departure of Dwayne Johnson, who is currently headlining the "Fast & Furious" spinoff "Hobbs & Shaw" alongside former franchise villain Jason Statham.

"Fast & Furious 9" is set to be released on May 22, 2020.

Cena's casting was initially teased by Vin Diesel via Instagram in April:
