Emma Thompson in Talks to Join Emma Stone in Disney's CRUELLA

Emma Thompson in Talks to Star As Disney Villain in CRUELLA
Two-time Oscar winner Emma Thompson ("Sense and Sensibility", "Howards End") is in early talks to join the cast of Disney's upcoming live-action origin story "Cruella".

Emma Stone will star as Cruella de Vil, the villain from the studio's 1961 animated classic "101 Dalmatians", who kidnapped the Dalmatian puppies for their fur. The character was previously played by Glenn Close in Disney's 1996 live-action adaptation of the animated film, which was produced and written by John Hughes. Thompson's role in the film is unknown at this time.

"Cruella" will be directed by Craig Gillespie ("I, Tonya"), with Marc Platt, Kristin Burr and Andrew Gunn producing. "The Favourite" scribe Tony McNamara has penned the most recent draft of the script, which was initially written by Dana Fox ("Isn't It Romantic ?").

The film's release date has been set for December 23, 2020.

Emma Thompson can also be seen in Amazon Studios' comedy "Late Night" and the sequel/reboot "Men in Black: International".
