Sigourney Weaver has announced that she will reprise her role as Dana Barrett in Jason Reitman's upcoming "Ghostbusters" movie, and although not officially confirmed, she might also reunite with other members of the franchise's original cast.
This small bit of information popped up during a recent interview with Parade Magazine, where the actress talked about her life in the world of Hollywood and her experience with films like "Ghostbusters", "Aliens" and "Avatar". "It's going to be crazy working with the guys again!", she said, although she didn't give away any other details.
The film is yet untitled, and production is expected to begin this summer in Calgary, Alberta. Reitman's "Ghostbusters" project is a a continuation of the original series that started in 1984 that will involve the passing of a torch to a new generation of paranormal investigators. It will have no connection to the much-maligned 2016 reboot directed by Paul Feig.
The screenplay is being written by Jason Reitman, original series director Ivan Reitman's son, in addition to directing. His father will also return as producer. The confirmed cast features McKenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard and Carrie Coon. Murray has been rumored to reprise his role as Peter Venkman. Aykroyd is on board as an executive producer, alongside Michael Beugg ("La La Land") and Jason Blumenfeld ("Tully").
Sony has set a July 20, 2020 release date for the new "Ghostbusters" film.
