Elizabeth Banks ("Brightburn") is the latest addition to the impressive cast of FX's upcoming limited series "Mrs. America". The nine-episode mini-series also stars zo Aduba, Rose Byrne, Kayli Carter, Ari Graynor, Melanie Lynskey, James Marsden, Margo Martindale, Sarah Paulson, John Slattery, Jeanne Tripplehorn and Tracey Ullman.
The story follows the movement to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), and the unexpected backlash led by a conservative woman named Phyllis Schlafly (Blanchett). Banks will play Jill Ruckelshaus, a pro-choice, socially progressive Republican appointed by President Ford to advance women's rights, who fought to keep the Republican Party from being taken over by Phyllis Schlafly and the Religious Right.
The series is written and executive produced by Dahvi Waller, and he will also serve as showrunner. The first two episodes will be directed by "Captain Marvel" helmers Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.
Banks is currently in post-production on the upcoming "Charlie's Angels" reboot, which she wrote, directed, produced, and also stars in. While better known for big-screen roles in films like "Pitch Perfect" and "The Hunger Games", her television resume includes Emmy nominated appearances in "Modern Family" and "30 Rock".
"Mrs. America" will be released in 2020.
