In a somewhat unexpected turn of events, the latest in the Robert Langdon saga, "Inferno", made a lackluster debut at the box-office while Tyler Perry's latest Madea movie still tops the charts.
Find out more about the weekend box office after the jump.
"Boo! A Madea Halloween" continues to lead at the box-office with $16.6 million after dropping only 41% from its opening weekend. The film has now grossed $52 million, more than double its budget in 10 days.
Meanwhile, Ron Howard's "Inferno" opened in second place with a weak $15 million, a loud and clear signal that the franchise has reached the end of the road. In 2009, "Angels & Demons" opened with $46.2 million and in 2006, "The Da Vinci Code" scored an impressive $77 million debut. The good news is that Sony understood that the third installment would run into box-office trouble and decided to only greenlight a $75 million budget, half the production cost of "Angels & Demons". Add to that the solid $132.7 million that this third installment grossed overseas, and the studio is definitely in the clear. "Inferno" scored a decent "B+" on CinemaScore, but a really bad 20% on Rotten Tomatoes.
In third place, "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back" dropped to #3 in its second weekend with $9.5 million and a considerable 58% drop. "The Accountant", on the other hand, is holding its steady pace at #4 with only a 38% drop and $8.4 million grossed in its third weekend, bringing its domestic total to $61.2 million.
"Ouija: Origin of Evil" rounds up the Top 5 with $7 million. The horror sequel has grossed $24.6 million domestically and another $19.1 million internationally versus a $9 million budget.
This week's unexpected entry in the Top 10 is "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil". The Indian romantic drama brought in $2.1 million from just 302 theaters and finished in tenth place.
New Wide Releases: "Inferno".
Biggest Drop : "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back" (-58%)
Smallest Drop : "Storks" (-30%)
