Clint Eastwood's biopic "Sully" enjoyed a second consecutive weekend at the top of the box-office, while new releases "Blair Witch", "Bridget Jones's Baby" and "Snowden" delivered modest results.

"Sully" is turning out to be Tom Hanks's biggest hit in quite some time. The film earned $22 million this weekend for a #1 finish which brings its domestic total to a solid $70.5 million, almost the entire gross of Hanks' "Bridge of Spies", in just 10 days. Add to that another $23.4 million from overseas markets, and the film is close to crossing the $100 million mark worldwide.
In second place, the unexpected horror sequel "Blair Witch" brought in a very modest $9.6 million. The good news, however, is that the film only cost $5 million to produce, but Lionsgate probably expected more from it. The first glitch began with the film's negative critical reception, which is now at a low 37% on Rotten Tomatoes, and that response is confirmed by audiences, which gave the film a terrible "D+" on CinemaScore. Internationally, "Blair Witch" only grossed $4.9 million from 27 markets. If this had been a big-budget blockbuster, it would have been a huge flop.
Close behind at #3 is another sequel, the romantic comedy "Bridget Jones's Baby" which finished with an $8.2 million opening weekend. This is the worst opening of the franchise, although the previous two films opened with modest results themselves: $10.7 million for the first film in 2001 and $8.6 million for "The Edge of Reason" in 2004. "Bridget Jones's Baby" should perform much better overseas, where it has already earned $29.9 million. The film's budget is estimated at $35 million. The film received a "B+" on CinemaScore and its critical reception is a "Fresh" 78% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The last of the new wide releases, Oliver Stone's controversial biopic "Snowden" opened in fourth place with $8 million, which isn't exactly great for the $40 million production, but it has met the studio's expectations. While critics gave the film mixed reviews (58% on Rotten Tomatoes), moviegoers liked it, as proven by the "A" scored on CinemaScore.
New Wide Releases: "Blair Witch", "Bridget Jones's Baby", "Snowden".
Biggest Drop : "When the Bough Breaks" (-61%)
Smallest Drop : "Suicide Squad" (-17.7%)
