There were no big finishes for this year's Labor Day weekend. With two new wide releases ("The Light Between Oceans" and "Morgan") failing to make it into the Top 5, last week's #1 movie, "Don't Breathe", had no problem holding on to the top spot.
Find out more about the weekend box office after the jump.
"Don't Breathe" held its #1 position with a $15.7 million weekend which brings the film to a solid $51 million total versus a $9.9 budget.
"Suicide Squad" also protected its #2 position with $10 million over the three-day weekend, and with the Monday gross, it should finally cross the $300 million mark. The film has now grossed $672.9 million worldwide.
The big surprise is Disney's "Pete's Dragon" which only dropped 13%, grossing $6.47 million and managed to climb back from #6 last week to #3 this weekend.
The new wide release, "The Light Between Oceans" only managed a sixth place finish with $4.9 million. The film received a "B" rating from CinemaScore and received mostly mixed reviews (61% score on Rotten Tomatoes). While the film only cost aproximatively $20 million to produce, this weak opening weekend is still quite a setback.
The other new release, the sci-fi thriller "Morgan", is another big disappointment. The directorial debut of Luke Scott, son of Ridley Scott, didn't even finish inside the Top 10, only grossing $1.96 million. This is the seventh worst debut of all-time for a film opening in more than 2,000 theaters. The good news is that the production budget is estimated at only $8 million. The film received a bad reception from both moviegoers (C+ on CinemaScore) and critics (43% on Rotten Tomatoes).

Biggest Drop : "Mechanic: Resurrection" (-42.7%)
Smallest Drop : "Pete's Dragon" (-13%)
