Weekend Box-Office: DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE Wins Labor Day Frame While REAGAN Tops Expectations

Weekend Box Office Deadpool And Wolverine Labor Day

Over a relatively quiet holiday frame, "Deadpool & Wolverine" reigned supreme over the Labor Day weekend, while the newly released biopic "Reagan" starring Dennis Quaid performed better than expected. The AI horror thriller "Afraid", however, was one of the weekend's more modest openings.

The juggernaut "Deadpool & Wolverine" dominated the Labor Day weekend with $15.1 million, down only 17.3%, and has crossed the $600 million mark domestically following Mondays' Labor Day holiday. Overseas it adds another $658.4 million for a global total of $1.2 billion.

"Alien: Romulus" finished in second place with $9 million, a 44.7% decline from last week, which brings the domestic total to $90.6 million through Monday, while overseas it adds another $194.7 million. The worldwide total has reached $285.3 million.

The epic disaster flick "Twisters" moved up from sixth to third place with $7.6 million over the weekend, ganing 25.7% from last week. After the holiday, the film's domestic cume has reached $260.4 million. The film also adds $101.2 million from foreign markets for a worldwide total of $361.6 million.

The first of the new releases, "Reagan" opened in fourth place with a modest $7.6 million from 2,754 theaters. Pundits, however were expecting an estimated $5 million 3-day. The 4-day total now sits at $10 million. Critics hated the movie (19% on Rotten Tomatoes), but moviegoers enjoyed it ("A" CinemaScore).

The Top 5 is rounded out by the drama "It Ends with Us" with $7.4 million, a 36.3% decline from the previous frame. The film has now grossed $135.7 million in North America, and $150 million internationally. That's a $285.7 million worldwide total.

The other new wide release, "Afraid" opened in ninth place with a weak $3.6 million from 3,003 theaters, and only raked in $4.4 million through Monday. It also adds $2.3 million from international markets.
