The sci-fi horror film "Alien: Romulus", a new installment in the "Alien" franchise, scored an impressive opening weekend and knocked "Deadpool & Wolverine" out of first place in its fourth frame. While no other new releases made it into the Top 10, the 2009 animated film "Coraline" was re-released in theaters for its 15th anniversary and delivered one of the stronger box-office performances of the week.

"Alien: Romulus" opened in first place with $42 million from 3,885 theaters, a decent start for an R-rated horror film and the second-best debut in the franchise, above "AVP: Alien Vs. Predator" ($38.2 million in 2004), and behind "Prometheus" ($51 million in 2012). It also raked in $68 million internationally, which adds up to a $110 million global debut. The critical reception was mostly positive, and audiences mostly enjoyed it ("B+" CinemaScore). The film's budget is estimated at around $80 million.
"Deadpool & Wolverine" landed in second place with $30 million, down 44.2% from the previous weekend. The film has now grossed a total of $546.8 million domestically, $597.9 million internationally, and $1.1 billion globally, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film ever worldwide.
The romantic drama "It Ends with Us" finished in third place with $23.8 million, dropping 52.4% from its opening weekend. The film has now grossed $97.5 million in North America and another $82.2 million overseas. The worldwide total now stands at $179.7 million.
In fourth place we find the sequel "Twisters" with $10 million, a 33.3% decline from last week. The film's domestic total has now reached $238.6 million, while internationally it grossed $95.1 million for a global total of $333.7 million.
The 15th anniversary re-release of "Coraline" rounds out the Top 5 with $9.6 million from 1,535 theaters. It opened on Thursday, and has now grossed $12.5 million. "Coraline" was previously re-released last year for four days only and grossed $7.1 million. It was originally released in February, 2010 and scored $16.8 million in its first weekend, then went on to gross a total of $75.2 million domestically. It remains Laika's highest-grossing movie.
