Nicholas Galitzine To Play He-Man In Amazon MGM & Mattel's MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Movie

Nicholas Galitzine Picture

"The Idea of You" and "Mary & George" star Nicholas Galitzine has been cast as He-Man in the upcoming "Masters of the Universe" adaptation directed by Travis Knight ("Bumblebee"). Developed by Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel, the long-delayed film will finally be released exclusively in theaters worldwide on June 5, 2026.

The script is written by Chris Butler ("Kubo and the Two Strings", "ParaNorman") after David Callaham and Aaron and Adam Nee ("The Lost City") penned a first draft. Plot details are being kept under wraps. The prior synopsis followed Prince Adam aka He-Man, who crashes to Earth in a spaceship as a child and, decades later, returns to his home planet to defend it from the evil forces of Skeletor. But in order to defeat the powerful villain, he needs to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man, referred to in this world as the most powerful man in the universe.

The film has languished in development hell for almost 20 years. It was originally set up at Warner Bros and Sony, before moving to Netflix. The streamer cancelled the film in 2023 over budget concerns. The countless directors involved include John Stevenson ("Kung Fu Panda"), Jon M. Chu ("Wicked"), McG ("Charlie's Angels"), and the Nee brothers. "West Side Story" actor Kyle Allen was at one point attached to star as He-Man.

"Masters of the Universe" will be produced by Escape Artists' Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch, as well as Mattel Films' Robbie Brenner.

Galitzine also appeared in Amazon MGM Studios' "Red, White & Royal Blue adaptation and will return for the forthcoming sequel.
