The boxing drama "Creed III" set new records for the spinoff series and sports movies in general when it opened over the weekend. The film managed to knock out "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" which continues its worrying decline. Crunchyroll's anime "Demon Slayer: To the Swordsmith Village" also opened this week and made it into the Top 5.

"Creed III" claimed the top spot with a $58.6 million debut from 4,007 theaters. This is a franchise-best opening, almost doubling the performance of the first "Creed" ($29.6 million), and its 2018 sequel ($35.5 million). It's also the best debut ever for a sports movie, a record previously held by 2010's "The Karate Kid" ($55.6 million). The threequel also scored $41.8 million from international markets, briging its worldwide cume to $100.4 million. The film, however, cost $75 million to produce, making it the most expensive film in the series, so far (its predecessors cost $35 million and $50 million, respectively). "Creed III" received a positive reception from both critics (87% on Rotten Tomatoes) and moviegoers ("A" CinemaScore).
Disney/Marvel's "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" fell 61% in its third weekend and finished in second place with $12.4 million. The film's domestic total has reached $186.7 million, lagging behind most MCU releases in the same time frame. Overseas, it grossed an additional $232.7 million, for a worldwide total of $419.5 million

The Top 5 is rounded out by Lionsgate's faith-based drama "Jesus Revolution", which grossed $8.6 million over the weekend, dropping 46% from its opening weekend. The film's domestic tally has reached $30.5 million.
