Hugh Grant And Sophia Lillis Join Dungeons And Dragons Movie

Golden Globe and BAFTA winner Hugh Grant ("About a Boy") and Sophia Lillis ("It") have joined the cast of Paramount and eOne's "Dungeons & Dragons" adaptation.

Based on the popular game franchise from Wizards of the Coast, the film will be directed by "Game Night" helmers Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley from their own script.

Plot details are unknown at this point, but it has been described as being a "subversive approach to the game". The cast also includes Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith and Rege-Jean Page. Grant is set to play the film's villain.

Paramount first announced the project in 2017. It was originally set for release in 2021, but the official release date is now May 27, 2022. Paramount will distribute in the U.S., while Hasbro’s production company eOne will distribute in Canada and the U.K.

A television series based on the "Dungeons & Dragons" property is also in the works from "John Wick" writer/creator Derek Kolstad. Meanwhile, a "D&D" inspired video game is in the works from Wizards of the Coast and developer Tuque Games.

Grant is currently filming Guy Ritchie's "Five Eyes". Lillis is also set to star in the drama "The Burning Season" opposite Naomi Watts, and the crime drama "The Thicket" alongside Peter Dinklage and Noomi Rapace.
