Production on the new season will begin next year. The show's final iteration will bring the royal family into the early 2000s. The cast also includes Imelda Staunton, who will play Queen Elizabeth II, replacing Olivia Colman.
On the show's Twitter account, Manville said:
"I could not be happier to be playing Princess Margaret. The Baton is being passed on from two formidable actresses and I really don't want to let the side down. To play siblings with my dear friend Imelda Staunton will be nothing short of a complete joy".
