"Captain Marvel" was taken down from the top spot as the box-office was shaken up this weekend with the release of Jordan Peele's new horror film "Us". With no other new releases, these two films helped boost the box-office, after a tough start this year.

Find out more about the weekend box-office after the jump.

Peele's "Us" opened in first place with a massive $70.2 million, which is the best debut of an original, non-sequel/remake/reboot, R-rated film since Universal's "Ted" ($54.4 million). It's also the third largest opening for an R-rated horror film, ahead of last year's "The Nun" ($53.8 million), and behind the "Halloween" reboot/sequel ($76.2 million), and the Stephen King adaptation "It" ($123.4 million). Peele's previous film, the highly acclaimed "Get Out" opened with $33.3 million and went on to gross $176 million domestically. "Us" received mostly positive reviews from critics (94% on Rotten Tomatoes and 81 on Metacritic), but the audience reception is more mixed-to-positive ("B" grade from CinemaScore's polls).

The MCU's latest addition, "Captain Marvel" dropped to #2 with $35 million. The film has brought in a total of $321.4 million domestically and another $588.8 overseas. It's also about to become the seventh installment in Marvel's franchise to top $1 billion worldwide.

The animated film "Wonder Park" performed well in its second weekend, grossing $9 million after a 43% drop. The film's domestic tally has reached $29.4 million after 10 days in theaters.

The teen romantic drama "Five Feet Apart" finished in fourth place with $8.7 million after a soft 34% drop in its second weekend. The film has grossed $26.4 million domestically, so far, against a $7 million budget.

The Top 5 is rounded out by the animated threequel "How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World" with $6.5 million. The film has grossed $145.7 million domestically and another $342.3 million internationally.

The romantic dramedy "Gloria Bell" starring Julianne Moore has expanded into 600 additional theaters and finished the weekend in seventh place with $1.8 million.
