Weekend Box-Office: HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 3 Debuts With Franchise Best

The animated threequel "How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World" opened in theaters with a franchise record and ended the box-office drought that has plagued the first two months of 2019. Also, the wrestling biopic "Fighting With my Family" expanded nationwide and performed relatively well.

Find out more about the weekend box-office after the jump.

"How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World" opened with $55.5 million from 4,259 theaters, and has grossed a domestic total of $58 million after including the $2.5 million grossed from an exclusive Fandango event that took place earlier this month. This is the largest opening weekend for this franchise, beating the original film's $43.4 million and the 2014 sequel's 49.4 million debuts. Overseas, the threequel has brought in $215.6 million after six weeks in international release. "How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World" received a very positive response from both critics (91% on Rotten Tomatoes and 71 on Metacritic) and moviegoers ("A" grade from CinemaScore's polls).

Last week's box-office champ, "Alita Battle Angel" dropped to #2 with $12 million grossed over the weekend. The film dropped a steep 58% and its domestic total has reached $60.6 million after 11 days in theaters. Overseas it's doing a lot beter, with a $62.2 million debut in China, which brings its international total to $202.6 million.

In third place we find "The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part" with $10 million. The film has grossed a domestic total of $83.6 million and internationally it's struggling with a tally of $53 million from 73 markets.

The dramedy/biopic "Fighting With My Family" expanded into 2,711 theaters this weekend and finished in fourth place with $8 million against a budget of $11 million.

The Top 5 is rounded out by the romantic comedy "Isn't It Romantic" with $7.5 million after a 47% drop. The film has grossed $33.7 million, so far, against a $31 million budget.

Barely making it into the Top 10 is the faith based sports drama "Run the Race" which opened with $2.2 million from 853 theaters.
