While it was fairly obvious that Warner Bros. was planning something big to follow its upcoming superhero extravaganza sequel "Superman Vs. Batman", an official confirmation has finally arrived today. Yes, WB is planning to make the "Justice League" movie, and, yes, "Man of Steel" director Zack Snyder will helm it. Furthermore, it seems that the superhero team-up movie will be released sometime in 2018. Snyder is currently working on "Superman Vs. Batman" (unofficial title, by the way) which stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jeremy Irons as Alfred and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. A new addition to the sequel's cast first sparked suspicions that WB is planning a "Justice League" movie. The new addition is Broadway actor Ray Fisher, who will play Cyborg, another member of the famous gathering of superheroes. The release date for "Superman Vs. Batman" has been set for release on May 6, 2016.

The first confirmation for "Justice League" came from Warner Bros. president of worldwide production Greg Silverman, who said that the 2016 Batman/Superman movie will be followed by "Justice League" sometime in 2018. Silverman went on to say that "It will be a further expansion of this universe" and "Superman vs Batman will lead into Justice League." And another bit of news came via Twitter from Borys Kit, a writer for the Hollywood Reporter, who stated that "Yes, Zack Snyder will direct Justice League. Yes it will shoot back to back. Likely release date: 2017. Likely announcement: Comic Con."

So there you have it, DC fans. The "Justice League" is finally coming.

The first images for the drama "Serena" have been released. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence once again star together, this time as 1930s newlyweds George and Serena Pemberton who move from Boston to the mountains of North Carolina where they begin to build a timber empire. The future of this empire is threatened when Serena finds out that she cannot bear children. The Pembertons' intense, passionate marriage begins to unravel as the story moves toward its shocking reckoning. The film is an adaptation of the New York Times best-selling novel by Ron Rash and it is directed by Susanne Bier ("In a Better World").

"Serena" does not currently have a release date.

A full trailer has been released for HBO's upcoming new series "The Leftovers". Based on the Rapture, the series explores the events following the disappearance of the chosen and the chaos and despair that the ones who were left behind must face. The series is created by Damon Lindelof ("Lost") and Tom Perrotta ("Little Children"), and it stars Justin Theroux, Liv Tyler, Christopher Eccleston, Amy Brenneman, Carrie Coon and Ann Dowd. The trailer looks awesome, much darker than you'd expect, and the use of James Blake's song "Retrograde" completes the grim atmosphere.

"The Leftovers" will premiere June 29th at 10pm.

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" has been finally unseated from the top spot at the box-office by a trio of ladies. The comedy "The Other Woman" starring Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann and Kate Upton was this weekend's top movie, grossing $24.7 million domestically and $20 million internationally. The Cap dropped to second place with $16 million over the weekend, but it has already grossed $225 million in the U.S. alone ($642 million globally), making it the highest-grossing April release ever. The previous record-holder for the month was "Fast Five" with $209 million.

Paul Walker's final finished film "Brick Mansions" performed modestly and only managed to open in fifth place with $9.6 million. The film is a remake of Pierre Morel's "Banlieue 13", and despite a slow start, the studio is apparently content with the film's debut.

The other wide release of the week, the horror "The Quiet Ones" performed poorly. The film landed in seventh place with $4 million, well below the studios expectations and quite a disappointment considering that similarly-themed movies have performed better than this in the past weeks.

In other box-office news, "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" has earned another $67.2 for its second weekend in foreign markets, bringing its global gross to $132 million. The sequel opens in the U.S. on May 2nd.

More box-office details and the complete top 10, after the jump.

Emily Browning ("Sucker Punch", "Pompeii") is in talks to join the cast of the crime thriller "Legends". The film is written and directed by Brian Helgeland ("42", "L.A. Confidential") and it stars Tom Hardy ("The Dark Knight Rises") in a dual role as identical twins Reggie and Robbie Kray who were "infamous for their criminal exploits in London during the 1950s and 1960s." Browning will play "a young woman who tragically falls for Reggie and marries him, hoping he will change his gangster ways." Filming is scheduled to begin in London later this spring. The actress recently starred in the disaster epic "Pompeii" and her earlier credits include films like "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events", the horror "The Uninvited", Zack Snyder's "Sucker Punch" and the indie drama "Sleeping Beauty" which was nominated for the Palme d'Or in 2011.

Five new clips and twelve images have been released for the comedy "Neighbors". The film is directed by Nicholas Stoller ("The Five-Year Engagement") and it stars Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, Zac Efron, Dave Franco, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Jake Johnson, Ike Barinholtz, Jason Mantozoukas and Lisa Kudrow. Early reviews praise the film as "an uproarious and hugely commercial vision of intergenerational warfare", "uproariously funny and almost breathtakingly dirty" and "more than your typical frat house movie". Rogen, Byrne, Efron and Franco have all enjoyed equally spectacular praises from the critics, so it's quite possible that this comedy will be a big hit.

"Neighbors" opens in theaters on May 9, 2014.

Check out the clips and images after the jump.

Five new behind-the-scenes featurettes have been released for the comedy "The Other Woman". The film stars Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann and Kate Upton as three women who have been betrayed by the same man (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and form an alliance to punish him. One of the featurettes describes the film's story and characters while the other four are fashion pieces for the characters played by Diaz, Mann, Upton and Nicki Minaj. Directed by Nick Cassavetes ("The Notebook"), the comedy also stars Taylor Kinney, Don Johnson and Victor Cruz.

"The Other Woman" is now in theaters.

A new international trailer has been released for the dramedy "A Long Way Down", an adaptation of "About A Boy" author Nick Hornby's novel. The story follows four strangers, played by Pierce Brosnan, Toni Collette, Aaron Paul and Imogen Poots, who accidentally meet on the top of a London skyscraper on New Year’s Eve while they were each trying to commit suicide. The four make a pact to stay alive until Valentine’s Day. The cast also features Rosamund Pike, Sam Neill and Tuppence Middleton.

"A Long Way Down" will be available on VOD June 5th and U.S. theaters on July 11th.

A new trailer and two posters have been released for the post-apocalyptic thriller "The Rover". Guy Pearce stars as hardened loner Eric as he travels through the outback. When a gang of thieves steals his car they leave behind a wounded Rey (Robert Pattinson). Forcing Rey to help track the gang, Eric will go to any lengths to take back the one thing that still matters to him. The film is directed by David Michod ("Animal Kingdom") and it also stars Scoot McNairy, Susan Prior, Gillian Jones, Anthony Hayes and David Field.

"The Rover" opens in theaters on June 20th.

Check out the trailer and posters after the jump.

Three new posters have been released for Doug Liman's "Edge of Tomorrow". The sci-fi actioner is based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka's novel "All You Need Is Kill" and it stars Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton and Jeremy Piven.

"Edge of Tomorrow" opens in theaters on June 6, 2014.

MGM and Paramount Pictures are working on a "Ben-Hur" remake and the studios have announced today the official release date for the project: February 26, 2016. The announcement came via an official press release which you can read after the jump, and in that press release, the studios also unveiled the creative powers that will be hard at work to bring this project to fruition. The film will be produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, the same team behind the popular TV miniseries "The Bible" and its big screen spin-off "Son of God", and it will be directed by Timur Bekmambetov ("Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter", "Wanted"). Bekmambetov seems like an odd choice for the project, but he is a very strong visual director, so at least I can hope that the remake will look amazing.

Lew Wallace's novel "Ben-Hur: A Tale Of The Christ" is the story of "a falsely accused nobleman who survives years of slavery to take vengeance on his best friend who betrayed him. Both must come to choose between retribution or forgiveness." The story follows the life of Judah Ben Hur in parallel to that of Jesus Christ, so the choice of producers confirms initial reports that the remake will be a more faith-driven film than the original 1959 adaptation. For those unfamiliar with the 1959 film, it was directed by William Wyler, it starred Charlton Heston and won 11 Academy Awards, a record that went unchallanged until it was matched by "Titanic" in 1998 and "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" in 2004.

For more information, read the full press release after the jump.

An exclusive clip and 17 images have been released for "The Two Faces of January", Hossein Amini's ("Drive") adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's novel. The film stars Viggo Mortensen, Kirsten Dunst and Oscar Isaac.

"The Two Faces of January" opens in theaters on May 16th in the U.K. and Ireland, and the U.S. premiere will take place at the San Francisco International Film Festival on April 24th.

A new theatrical trailer was released for James Gray's period drama "The Immigrant". The cast features Marion Cotillard, Angela Sarafyan, Joaquin Phoenix and Jeremy Renner.

"The Immigrant" will get a limited release in the U.S. on May 16th.

amanda seyfried peter pan prequel
The cast for Joe Wright's "Pan" (as-yet-untitled) has added some new names to its already impressive roster. The most notable new addition is Amanda Seyfried ("Les Miserables"), who will play Mary. She is joined by Jack Charles as The Chief/Tiger Lily’s father, Taejoo Na as Kwahu, Nonso Anozie ("The Bible") as Bishop, Kathy Burke as Mother Barnabas; Kurt Egyiawan ("Skyfall") as Murray, Lewis MacDougall as Nibs, and newcomer Leni Zieglmeier as Wendy Darling. The cast already includes Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard, Garrett Hedlund as Hook, Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily, Adeel Akhtar as Smee, and Levi Miller as Peter. The film is set for a worldwide release on July 17, 2015. Here is the official synopsis:
"Offering a new take on the origin of the classic characters created by J.M. Barrie, the film follows the story of an orphan who is spirited away to the magical Neverland. There, he finds both fun and dangers, and ultimately discovers his destiny—to become the hero who will be forever known as Peter Pan."

A red-band trailer has been released for the comedy "Let's Be Cops". Damon Wayans Jr. and Jake Johnson star as two struggling friends who dress up as police officers for a costume party, but soon discover that people actually think they're the real thing. This soon leads to trouble as the two end up tangled in a real life web of mobsters and dirty detectives. The trailer looks funny enough, assuming these aren't the film's only highlights, but the movie does seem to emulate that same "Hangover" quality that most R-rated comedies have these days. Nina Dobrev, Rob Riggle, James D’Arcy and Keegan-Michael Key also star.

"Let's Be Cops" opens in theaters on August 13th.

Watch the trailer after the jump.

A collection of five new posters have been released for the "Godzilla" remake directed by Gareth Edwards. The new posters include international, viral one-sheets and the IMAX poster. "Godzilla" opens in theaters on May 16th (2D, 3D and IMAX 3D).

A new international red-band trailer and some new images have been released for David Cronenberg's new film "Maps to the Stars". The film follows an archetypical Hollywood dynasty and although it looks to have Cronenberg's trademark psychological drama elements, it also seems to be quite different from the director's previous works. The film stars Mia Wasikowska, John Cusack, Julianne Moore, Robert Pattinson, Olivia Williams and Sarah Gadon.

"Maps to the Stars" opens in France and Italy on May 21st and it will most certainly premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

scarlett johansson
Lupita Nyong’o
Scarlett Johansson ("The Avengers") and Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong'o ("12 Years a Slave") are currently in talks to join the cast of director Jon Favreau's "The Jungle Book". The two actresses will lend their voices to characters from the film, which will be a live-action/CG hybrid. Johansson is in negotiations to voice Kaa, the python with a hypnotic gaze, and Nyong’o is in final talks to play Rakcha, the wolf that adopts Mowgli. Idris Elba has already been cast as the voice of Shere Khan, the man-eating tiger. The film is a new adaptation by Disney of the classic Rudyard Kipling tale, but it's just one of two projects underway. Warner Bros. is also making a live-action adaptation of "Jungle Book" with Andy Serkis directing. Disney's "The Jungle Book" should begin production soon and it will be released in theaters on October 29, 2015.

emily blunt
benicio del toro
Emily Blunt ("Edge of Tomorrow") and Benicio Del Toro ("Traffic") are set to star in the thriller "Sicario" which will be directed by Denis Villeneuve ("Prisoners") from a script by Taylor Sheridan. Blunt will play a "an officer from Tuscon who travels across the border to Mexico with a pair of mercenaries in order to track down a drug lord." As for Del Toro, there's no word on what role he'll be playing, but I suspect it will be either the drug lord (best fit, I think), or one of the mercenaries. Villeneuve will begin filming "Sicario" this summer for a 2015 release, and then he will begin work on "Story of Your Life" at the beginning of next year.

Emily Blunt can also be seen this summer opposite Tom Cruise in "Edge of Tomorrow" and in the Disney musical "Into the Woods". Benicio Del Toro also stars in several projects set for release in 2014, including "Paradise Lost", Paul Thomas Anderson's "Inherent Vice" and Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy".

Filming has begun for the new installment in the "Jurassic Park" franchise. Titled "Jurassic World", the sequel is written and directed by Colin Trevvorow ("Safety Not Guaranteed") and promises the start of a new trilogy. Filming is underway in Hawaii, and Entertainment Weekly has released three behind-the-scenes images that give us a first look at Bryce Dallas Howard and some of the locations from the film. One of the images (a damaged truck with "construction" written on the side) could possibly suggest that the plot involves the building of a new dinosaur park, which means people have not learned anything from the first two films. The sequel's cast also features Chris Pratt, Nick Robinson, Ty Simpkins, Vincent D’Onofrio, Omar Sy, B.D. Wong, Judy Greer, Jake Johnson and Irrfan Khan.

"Jurassic World" opens in theaters on June 12, 2015.

Check out the images (click to enlarge) after the jump.

The first poster and images for the action film "The Equalizer" have been released. Directed by Antoine Fuqua ("Training Day"), the film is an adaptation of a 1980s TV show and it stars Denzel Washington as a former black ops commando who picks a fight with the Russian mafia to save a young girl (Chloe Grace Moretz). This reawakens the old soldier's desire for justice, and if we are to believe what the filmmakers are saying, this could be the first in a potential movie franchise. Marton Csokas, David Harbour, Bill Pullman and Melissa Leo also star.

"The Equalizer" opens in theaters on September 26th.

Check out the images and poster (click to enlarge) after the jump.

Dimension Films has released a new 60-second trailer for Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For". The sequel mixes two of Miller’s classic stories with new tales from Sin City and although many people seem to take issue with the fact that the film's aesthetic looks inferior to the original, or just more of the same, I think it's just fine. I believe it will be more important if the stories themselves will be interesting or not. The film stars Eva Green, Josh Brolin, Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, Jaime King, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dennis Haysbert, Christopher Meloni, Jeremy Piven, Ray Liotta, Juno Temple, Stacy Keach and Julia Garner.

"Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" opens in theaters on August 22nd.

A new trailer has been released for the comedy "Sex Tape" starring Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel as a couple who race against time to track down and erase all copies of a three-hour sex marathon that they recorded on their iPad and then accidentally shared via Cloud to all their friends and family. The new trailer is the green-band (very clean and safe for work) version of the previously released trailer. Directed by Jake Kasdan ("Bad Teacher"), the comedy also stars Rob Corddry, Ellie Kemper and Rob Lowe.

"Sex Tape" opens in theaters on July 25th.

Paddy Considine, David Thewlis, Sean Harris, Jack Reynor and Elizabeth Debicki also star.

"Macbeth" is scheduled for release in the U.K. in 2015.

jessica chastain
Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain ("Zero Dark Thirty") is set to star as Marilyn Monroe in the biopic "Blonde". The film is directed by Andrew Dominik ("The Assassination of Jesse James") and it is based on author Joyce Carol Oates' historical novel of the same name which "reimagines the inner, poetic and spiritual life of Norma Jeane Baker — the child, the woman and the fated-celebrity". The memoir was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award in 2001 Naomi Watts was previously attached in the lead role, but dropped out some time ago. Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner will produce the biopic through their company Plan B. "Blonde" has been adapted before in the form of a 2001 TV miniseries starring Poppy Montgomery.
