Scarlett Johansson (
"The Avengers") and Oscar-winner
Lupita Nyong'o (
"12 Years a Slave") are currently in talks to join the cast of director
Jon Favreau's
"The Jungle Book". The two actresses will lend their voices to characters from the film, which will be a live-action/CG hybrid. Johansson is in negotiations to voice Kaa, the python with a hypnotic gaze, and Nyong’o is in final talks to play Rakcha, the wolf that adopts Mowgli.
Idris Elba has already been cast as the voice of Shere Khan, the man-eating tiger. The film is a new adaptation by Disney of the classic
Rudyard Kipling tale, but it's just one of two projects underway. Warner Bros. is also making a live-action adaptation of
"Jungle Book" with
Andy Serkis directing. Disney's
"The Jungle Book" should begin production soon and it will be released in theaters on October 29, 2015.
