Weekend Box-Office: DUMBO Soars Above US and CAPTAIN MARVEL

Disney's "Dumbo" conquered the weekend box-office, even as Jordan Peele's "Us" and "Captain Marvel" continue to perform well. The film wasn't the huge hit that pundits were predicting, but still managed a solid weekend debut. Meanwhile Pure Flix's anti-abortion drama "Unplanned" overperformed, and Matthew McConaughey's comedy "The Beach Bum" failed to find an audience.

BARRY Season 2 Trailers, Images and Poster

The second season of the dark comedy series "Barry" is set to premiere on March 31, 2019 on HBO at 10p. Created by Alec Berg and Bill Hader, the show follows a former marine (Hader) working as a hit man in the Midwest who goes to the West Coast for a job and winds up getting involved in the Los Angeles theater scene. The cast also includes Stephen Root, Sarah Goldberg, Glenn Fleshler, Anthony Carrigan and Henry Winkler.

In Theaters: DUMBO, THE BEACH BUM, DIANE and A VIGILANTE

Disney has released its most recent live action remake, a loose retooling of their 1941 animated classic "Dumbo", which was based on a story written by Helen Aberson and Harold Pearl, and illustrated by Helen Durney for the prototype of a novelty toy ("Roll-a-Book"). Directed by Tim Burton, the new film has brought in $2.6 million from Thursday previews and it's expected to finish its opening weekend somewhere between $50 and $60 million from 4,259 theaters.

Another new semi-wide release is Harmony Korine's R-rated comedy "The Beach Bum" starring Matthew McConaughey, Snoop Dogg, Isla Fisher, Zac Efron, Jimmy Buffett, Martin Lawrence and Jonah Hill. The film opened in over 1,000 theaters and is expected to gross around $3 million over the weekend.

Other limited releases to keep an eye out for are the indie dramas "Diane" starring Mary Kay Place", and "A Vigilante" starring Olivia Wilde.

"Dumbo" is a live-action adaptation and loose remake of Disney's classic 1941 animated film of the same name. The film is directed by Tim Burton from a screenplay by Ehren Kruger ("Arlington Road", "The Ring").

The film follows the adventures of a newborn elephant, whose oversized ears enable him to fly, which helps save a struggling circus. But Dumbo and his friends discover dark secrets beneath its shiny veneer. The cast includes Colin Farrell, Eva Green, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Nico Parker, Finley Hobbins and Alan Arkin.

"Dumbo" opened in theaters on March 29, 2019 and received mixed reviews from critics.

"Hanna" is a new action thriller series created by David Farr ("The Night Manager") based on the 2011 film of the same name directed by Joe Wright, which Farr co-wrote alongside Seth Lochhead. Esme Creed-Miles stars as an extraordinary young girl, Hanna, raised as an assassin in the forest, who is forced on the run by an off-book CIA agent as she tries to unearth the truth behind who she is. The cast also features Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman.

The full eight-episode first season of "Hanna" premiered on March 29, 2019 via Amazon Prime Video.

Angelina Jolie in Talks For Marvel's THE ETERNALS

Angelina Jolie is reportedly in talks to make her superhero debut in Marvel's "The Eternals". The MCU film will focus on the titular group of super-powered near-immortal human beings genetically engineered by cosmic beings known as the Celestials a million years ago. The Celestials also created the villainous Deviants, and the two groups have fought each other throughout history. The protagonist of the story will be the female Eternal known as Sersi.

"The Rider" helmer Chloe Zhao is set to direct the film from a screenplay penned by Matthew and Ryan Firpo ("Ruin"). Jolie's role is unknown at this time. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige will produce, and he has recently announced that they have started working on what films will be part of the post-phase 3 films, although it will probably be a while before official announcements will be made.

Jolie also stars in Disney's upcoming sequel "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil", which will be released on October 18, 2019.

The cast also includes Neil Flynn, Nelson Franklin, Jessica Chaffin, Leonard Ouzts and Kimia Behpoornia.
