Florence Pugh in Talks to Join Scarlett Johansson in BLACK WIDOW Movie

Florence Pugh in Talks to Join Scarlett Johansson in BLACK WIDOW Movie
"Fighting With My Family" star Florence Pugh is in talks to join Scarlett Johansson in Marvel's standalone "Black Widow" movie. The film will be directed by Australian filmmaker Cate Shortlan, who is best known for the Nazi drama "Lore". The script has been rewritten by Ned Benson ("The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby") from a previous draft by Jac Schaeffer ("The Hustle").

Described as a spy action thriller, the film will be internationally set and will follow Natasha Romanoff, a spy and assassin who grew up being trained by the KGB before breaking from their grasp and becoming an agent of SHIELD and Avenger. Pugh will play a spy on the same level as Romanoff, but most likely an antagonist. Marvel has made no comments for now.

The film is expected to begin shooting in June.

Pugh has been on the rise with a wide range of roles in films like "Lady Macbeth", Netflix's epic "Outlaw King" and the AMC limited series "The Little Drummer Girl". She is also set to star in Greta Gerwig's upcoming "Little Women" adaptation, and can be seen this August in the horror film "Midsommar" from "Hereditary" filmmaker Ari Aster.
