The DC Comics superhero movie "Suicide Squad" conquered the box-office over the weekend with a record-breaking performance. Meanwhile, "Nine Lives", the only other new wide release that dared to go up against "Suicide Squad", ended up being a disappointment.

Find out more about the weekend box office after the jump.

Warner Bros' "Suicide Squad" exploded at the box-office with $135.1 million and now holds the record for largest August opening weekend. The record was previously held by Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" with $94 million. The film also broke the record of largest August opening day with $65.2 million. "Suicide Squad" also grossed $132 million internationally from 57 territories, bringing its worldwide total, so far, to $267.1 million, which is more than the $264.7 million earned by "Deadpool" when it opened in 63 markets. "Suicide Squad" is rated B+ on CinemaScore and 26% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Meanwhile, in second place we have last week's #1 movie, "Jason Bourne" grossed $22.7 million over the weekend, dropping more than 61%. The film's domestic total has now reached $103.4 million with an additional $91.9 million earned overseas.

At #3, "Bad Moms" held its ground with a $14.2 million weekend which brings its domestic gross to $51 million. Another holdover is the animated feature "The Secret Life of Pets" which stayed at #4 with $11.5 million and a huge $319 million domestic total.

"Star Trek Beyond" rounds up the Top 5 and continues to drop badly. The film dropped another 59% last week and earned $10.2 million for a modest $127.9 million domestic total.

The other new wide release of the week, the comedy "Nine Lives" earned a weak $6.5 million and doesn't look like it will last long in the Top 10. Moviegoers gave the film a B+ average according to CinemaScore, and it holds a terrible 4% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
